Server status Is the WoW Forever beta down?

Can’t log in to the WoW Forever beta? First check whether the servers are down for maintenance: we follow Blizzard’s posts live, along with a game client that tries to log in every two minutes. Further down: the most common login errors and how to get past them, then every maintenance so far.

Login errors

The errors you can get when logging in to the beta, and what to do about each.

  1. Retrieving character listCharacter not found

After the level 30 update of October 1: the screen never ended, or the loading bar stopped near the end with “Character not found”, for about an hour and a half once the realms reopened.

    Blizzard, October 2

“We’re aware of and working to address an issue that appears to be preventing testers from logging into the WoW: Forever Beta.” forum

What to do: Nothing to do on your side while Blizzard is on it: testers got in again from about 00:30 UTC. If it comes back later, quit the game, let the Battle.net app finish updating the beta, and start it again. That fixed it for testers the next morning.

  2. You have been disconnected from the server. (BLZ51901016)

On September 17, the evening the beta opened, then on September 24, October 1 and October 8, while the realms were offline for a new build. Testers saw it at the same moments, so it came from the realms, not from their computers. On October 8 it lasted a few minutes after Blizzard wrote that the realm was back.

What to do: Look at the box at the top of this page. If the realms are offline, wait for Blizzard’s word. If they are up and the error stays, restart the Battle.net app so it can download the new build.

  3. WOW51900319Disconnected while playing

From the September 24 build to the next day, some testers were disconnected every 10 to 15 minutes, with lag spikes.

    Blizzard, September 25

“We’re tracking server issues that are affecting some Beta testers, and our fix for this will almost certainly result in restarting servers today.” forum

What to do: You can log back in right away. Blizzard restarted the realms about an hour later, on September 25, with fixes for their stability.

  4. No realms availableAfter choosing Normal, PvP or Roleplaying

When the beta has a new build and your game has not downloaded it yet: testers met it on September 28 and on October 2.

What to do: Close the game, restart the Battle.net app and let it update the beta, then log in again.

  5. Realm is fullA queue after a disconnection

On September 26 and 27, testers got a login queue after a disconnection, with room left on the realm.

    Blizzard, September 27

“We looked into this, and found an issue that was causing the queue to fill, and we just fixed the issue.” forum

What to do: Blizzard fixed it on September 27.

  6. Character with that name already existsLocked out of a character after a restart or a trip

On September 21 and 22, after a realm restart caught testers on a boat or in a loading screen, their character could not be played again. It came back with the October 8 update, for characters disconnected on the Deeprun Tram, during a flight, on a boat or while crossing into another zone: the loading bar filled and stayed full until the game disconnected (WOW51900319), or the game said a character with that name already existed. The account’s other characters logged in normally.

    Blizzard, September 22

“When reporting an issue like this, please provide the name of the Beta character that you’re locked out of, and if possible, the exact time you were last successfully playing the character (and got disconnected).” forum

What to do: Nothing to do now: these characters have been playable again since October 9, around 16:00 UTC, when a Blizzard developer closed the testers’ bug report with “It was a world server hiccup.” If it happens again, log in with another character first, then try the stuck one again. If that fails, report it on the forum with the character’s name and the time you last played it, as Blizzard asked in September.

  7. Social features lockedAustralian testers only

From the October 1 build until Blizzard’s fix on October 3, Australian testers got a window at login saying their social features were locked down.

    Blizzard, October 1

“This is not the case, of course. We’ll get the bug fixed as soon as possible.” forum

What to do: Nothing to do: Blizzard fixed it on October 3. If the window still shows, close it: your social features are not locked.

Questions

Is WoW Forever down right now?

The box at the top of this page tells you. It follows Blizzard’s posts on the official forums and wowforeverstatus.com, where a player’s game client tries to log in every two minutes, and shows when a maintenance is announced, when the beta realms are offline and when they are back. If you cannot log in while it shows nothing, look at the errors on this page.

When does the WoW Forever beta have maintenance?

When a new build goes out. The three big ones so far came on Thursdays: September 24, without warning, October 1, announced the evening before, and October 8, announced an hour before. Blizzard gives no hour far in advance: on October 1 it said 45 minutes before, and the realms went down around 11 a.m. Pacific (18:00 UTC); on October 8 it said at 8 a.m. Pacific that they would go down at 9 (16:00 UTC). Short restarts to fix stability can come on any day, with a few minutes’ to an hour’s warning, as on September 22 and 25 and October 5 and 6.

How long does a maintenance last?

On October 8, about five hours: the game client that tries to log in every two minutes failed from about 16:40 UTC and got in again at 21:40 UTC, six minutes after Blizzard wrote that the realm was back. On October 1, also about five hours: the realms went down around 18:00 UTC and Blizzard posted the new build’s notes at 22:56 UTC, then many testers could not log in until about 00:30 UTC. On September 24, Blizzard said “at least a couple of hours”. A restart like the one of September 25 takes a few minutes.

When does the beta end, and when does WoW Forever launch?

Blizzard keeps the beta open through October 21, its last full day of testing. World of Warcraft: Forever launches on November 4, 2026.

What each update changed is in the patch notes; the beta’s dates and how to get in are on the Beta page.
