PvP ranks and Honor WoW Forever

The 14 PvP ranks of original WoW are back in Forever, from Private to Grand Marshal for the Alliance and from Scout to High Warlord for the Horde. Battlegrounds and PvP quests give you two things: Honor, which you spend on PvP gear, and Rank Points, which raise your rank. Each new rank unlocks rewards you can buy.

You can’t climb as fast as you like: each week, the game raises the highest rank you can reach, and rank 14 opens in the tenth week of a season at the earliest. In 2004, your rank depended on how much you played compared with the rest of your server. In Forever, every player needs the same number of points.

Below: what each rank takes and unlocks, how Honor buys the PvP sets, and what you can already do at level 30 on the beta, where Darkspear Islands, the new 15 against 15 battleground, is open.

The 14 ranks

Each rank takes a few more Rank Points than the one before: 750 for rank 1, 3,000 for rank 14. Once you have a rank, its rewards are on sale for you in the Champion’s Hall in StormwindHall of Legends in Orgrimmar.

Rank Points: what it takes to reach that rank from the one before. Total: from the start. Earliest: the first week of a season when the game lets you reach it.

The weekly cap

Each week, the game raises the highest rank you can reach this season, up to rank 14 in week 10. The limit counts everything you’ve earned since the season began, so starting late doesn’t hold you back: a player who starts in week 5 can go straight to rank 8 (10,200 points).

  1. Week 1Rank 32,700+2,700
  2. Week 2Rank 55,250+2,550
  3. Week 3Rank 66,750+1,500

  9. Week 9Rank 1321,750+2,650
  10. Week 10Rank 1424,750+3,000

Two ranks are never a week’s ceiling: 4 and 10. Week 7 jumps two ranks at once, to 11 and the black war mounts. How many Rank Points a battleground or a quest gives is not public yet, so neither is the number of games a week takes.

Honor and the PvP sets

Honor

Honor comes from killing players of the other faction, from battlegrounds and from PvP quests, and lands at once in your currencies. You can hold 25,000: Blizzard raised the cap from 15,000 on October 1, when it put most PvP prices up by about 50%. The new prices aren’t public yet.

Every battleground now gives about the same Honor for your time, so Alterac Valley is no longer the only efficient one. The Legacy perk For Great Honor adds up to 10%.

Blue, then epic

Each set comes in blue for Honor, item level 60, from level 55, with no rank needed. The epic version, item level 65, needs level 60: you bring the blue piece and the Emboldened Seal of its slot, and each seal is sold from a rank.

  • Waistrank 8
  • Feetrank 9
  • Handsrank 10
  • Legsrank 12
  • Shoulderrank 12
  • Chestrank 13
  • Headrank 13

On a warrior’s chest, the blue piece has 25 Stamina and 11 Strength, the epic one 34 and 21.

The sets, class by class

Fifteen sets per faction. Shamans and druids get three each, paladins and priests two, so healers and casters have their own. Horde paladins and Alliance shamans, who had none in 2004, get theirs.

Where the points come from

Rank Points come from battlegrounds and from tasks given in Gadgetzan. Honor comes from the same places, and from every honorable kill. Battlegrounds mix players from every ruleset except Hardcore.

BattlegroundLevelsPlayersCall to Arms
Warsong Gulch10–6010 vs 10Yes
Arathi Basin20–6015 vs 15Yes
Darkspear IslandsNew30–6015 vs 15Yes
Alterac Valley51–6040 vs 40No

Each week, one of the first three is the Call to Arms battleground, in turn: Darkspear Islands, then Arathi Basin, then Warsong Gulch. That week it gives more Honor and more Rank Points.

The Field of Honor journey

Each season comes with ten weekly quests that give Honor and Rank Points. Weeks 4, 7 and 10 also give a Legacy point each, and those three stay open in later seasons. The quests aren’t public yet, but these are the tasks waiting in the game:

  • Complete 3 Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin or Darkspear Islands battles
  • Win a Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Darkspear Islands or Alterac Valley battle
  • 25 kills in Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin or Darkspear Islands
  • 200 kills in Alterac Valley
  • 25 kills in the Gurubashi Arena
  • Win 10 duels

12 Legacy points

PvP pays 12 of the Legacy points a character can earn, one each:

  • ranks 3, 7, 10, 13, 14
  • Exalted with each battleground’s faction
  • weeks 4, 7, 10 of the journey

Darkspear Islands at level 30

It’s the new battleground, and the only one the beta lets you queue, from level 30. Fifteen against fifteen on islands off the coast of Kalimdor: four bases to hold, a flag in the middle to carry to one of yours, first team to 2,000 points. Stay out of the water: sharks.

Queue at the battlemaster of any capital, or in the Barrens at your side’s base: Northwatch, where a portal takes you inthe Merchant Coast. Wins and marks build up your standing with the Theramore Expeditionary ForceDarkspear Raiders, whose quartermaster sells gear you can wear at 30. Hand in 3 marks for 30 Honor and reputation at level 30 to 39, and the tabard waits at Exalted.

All of them need level 28, and most come again for levels 38, 48 and 58.

Rank Points don’t seem to count on the beta yet: the PvP tab still reads 0 / 750 for players who have farmed 2,000 Honor.

For the rest of your gear at 30, each class has a PvP list among our best-in-slot lists, and the duel tournament guide covers the level 30 Horde tournament of October 17 and 18.

Questions

Does rank decay?
Blizzard hasn’t mentioned decay, and nothing in the game takes points away: your rank is a bar that only fills. Classic Era itself stopped decay in December 2023.
Does my rank reset every season?
Blizzard hasn’t said. The PvP tab shows the season and a countdown to its end, the lead designer said rank 14 can be reached “within a season or within a patch cycle”, and the roadmap plans a PvP season refresh in spring 2027 and another in summer 2027.
When does the first season start?
No date yet. Forever launches on November 4, and Blizzard hasn’t said whether the first PvP season starts the same day.
Do I need Alterac Valley?
No. Blizzard evened out the Honor each battleground gives, Alterac Valley opens only at level 51, and it isn’t in the Call to Arms rotation. It still counts for the journey’s kill tasks and for its Legacy reputation.
Does world PvP count?
Honorable kills anywhere give Honor. Rank Points, in the game’s own words, come from battlegrounds and from tasks given in Gadgetzan.
What happens to Rank Points past the weekly cap?
Blizzard hasn’t said whether they wait for next week’s cap or are lost.
Do I need a rank to buy the blue set?
No. The blue pieces need level 55 and Honor, nothing else. Ranks gate the seals, the rank rewards and the weapons.
Are there arenas or rated battlegrounds?
None announced. The beta holds two arenas, Hyjal Crater and Mak’gora Arena, and a Battle for Gilneas map that Blizzard hasn’t talked about.
