Camping

New Forever system

How Camping works

  1. 1Build a campfireA cook crafts a Basic Campfire Kit from one Simple Wood, with Flint and Tinder in the bags, and places it. It burns for 15 minutes, and no other campfire can stand within 100 yards.
  2. 2Add your objectFrom skill 20 in a profession, you place its object by the fire; the others come from other players. Your camp objects share a one-hour cooldown.
  3. 3Sit down for a minuteAnyone sitting or crafting by the fire for a minute gets the buffs of the objects around it. They last an hour, so you can leave once you have them.

Around level 5, the quest The Great Outdoors has you sit at a campfire, then sends you to a cooking trainer to learn the Basic Campfire; the trainer sells the Simple Wood and the Flint and Tinder. Each profession you know then gets a quest, handed in to its trainer, that teaches its first camp object. (Wowhead's Camping overview; the client has no quests.)

Campfires

Cooks make them. A bigger campfire holds more objects, and its Blueprint can be learned before the kit can be placed.

Upgrades at skill 140 and 300

All come from Blueprints. Most go over the object at skill 20 and keep its buff. Happy Camper sells the skill 140 Blueprints for 15 silver each, just outside Ironforge (Dun Morogh 51.6, 40.0).

Keep in mind

  • A camp buff does not stack with the class buff it copies, such as the Fish Bowl with Blessing of Kings: you keep one or the other.
  • Only Leatherworking's Camp Tent, and the Tanning Rack and Sewing Machine that replace it, give rested experience. Thirty seconds by the tent raises yours to 5% of a level, once an hour, and does nothing if you already have more.
  • Most dishes a cook makes also give 5% more experience from kills (not from quests) while you are well fed. The Cooking page lists which ones.
  • The Faction Banner only buffs players of your own faction.
  • Camp objects can be traded, but placing one needs the profession skill it shows.
  • Add camp features often? Look at Field Guide and Reagent Economy. For longer benefits between stops, look at Permanence.
  • Check a feature's tier before counting on free reagents. Reagent Economy only names Tier 1.
Sources and what is still to verify

A new Forever system. A cook builds a campfire, other players add objects from their professions, and anyone who sits by the fire for a minute gets their buffs for an hour. Each profession has three objects, the first at skill 20.

Profession context: Described by Blizzard. This status does not confirm individual bonuses.

The points below are still unconfirmed.

  • Where each Blueprint drops
  • How many objects a craft makes: one in the client, two according to Wowhead
  • Whether camps work in cities and instances
  • Whether you need to be grouped to get another player's camp buffs
